IDWP is a nonprofit organization striving to bring relief, hope, and safe drinking water to rural dwellers in Liberia and other African nations โ one well at a time.
Serving rural communities in Liberia who lack access to safe, clean drinking water after 15+ years of civil war devastation.
Our Mission
Welcome to the International Development Water Project (IDWP). We are a nonprofit organization headquartered in Minnesota, USA, striving to bring relief, hope, and safe drinking water to rural dwellers in Liberia and other African nations.
The need for clean and safe drinking water in Africa โ especially Liberia โ is critical due to the destruction of infrastructure after more than 15 years of civil war. Many residents currently obtain drinking water from wells, creeks, and rivers that lack proper treatment.
We believe clean and safe water helps prevent diseases. That belief drives everything we do.
Learn About IDWPWhat We Do
Our development project focuses on providing several thousands of residents with essential water infrastructure.
We drill safe, deep wells in rural areas of Liberia to provide communities with access to clean groundwater โ free from surface contamination.
We construct reservoirs that store treated water and serve entire communities, ensuring a reliable and consistent supply throughout the year.
We install manual merry-go-round pump devices โ children play while pumping clean water from wells, providing joy and utility at the same time.

Development Project
After 15 years of civil war that demolished almost all water plants and facilities in Liberia, many city and rural dwellers currently obtain their drinking water from wells, creeks, and rivers that lack proper treatment.
Due to the shortage of electricity in most parts of Liberia, our goal is to establish a water system that is operated manually โ but effectively, efficiently, and at low cost.
"Water is a great need. Clean water for rural communities is the beginning of health."โ President Joseph N. Boakai, Office Press Release, March 4, 2009
Before & After
Wells currently used in Liberia are often dug in close proximity to outhouses, making them highly vulnerable to contamination and disease.
